People born before the digital era probably remember the colourful, loud, over-the-top, hand painted Bollywood movie posters on hoardings all over cities and small towns. Those used to be, of course, the most economical and efficient way of advertising new movies and attracting cinegoers. In order to keep this art form alive and make it available to nostalgic collectors, Hinesh Jethwani, founder of Indian Hippy – one of the world’s largest brands to preserve vintage art of hand painted movie posters – started BollywoodMoviePosters.com (BMP). “We have artists who earlier used to work in this field, also working for us. In addition, we have full-time employees who travel across the country looking for these movie posters,” says Hinesh.

Many of these posters have been lying stored and neglected in warehouses around the country. Hinesh and his team find them and try to restore them so they can be sold to customers. Earlier, many of these posters were only available via auction to wealthy people. But, with the emergence of new platforms, anyone interested in old Bollywood paraphernalia can collect them at affordable prices. The posters are priced from Rs.399/- to a maximum of Rs. 1 lakh. Here are the few authentic movie posters which are restored by BMP and are up for sale:
